Kingston Jr. Ponies Join CPBL Prospect Division, Expanding Elite Development Opportunities in Eastern Ontario

KINGSTON, ON – The Canadian Premier Baseball League (CPBL) is pleased to announce that the Kingston Jr. Ponies Baseball Organization will join the CPBL Prospect Division, marking an important step in the continued growth of high-level player development opportunities throughout Eastern Ontario.

The addition of the Kingston Jr. Ponies brings an organization with deep roots in the Kingston baseball community into the CPBL. With a baseball tradition that can be traced back to 1899, the Jr. Ponies have built a longstanding commitment to developing local athletes and providing opportunities for players to compete at higher levels while pursuing their academic and post-secondary goals.

Joining the CPBL Prospect Division will provide Jr. Ponies players with the opportunity to compete alongside and against many of Ontario’s leading developmental programs and prospects. The move will further strengthen the organization’s development pathway while providing Eastern Ontario athletes with increased access to high-level competition, exposure and post-secondary recruitment opportunities.

TJ Burton, CPBL Director of Strategy and Growth, said the addition of the Jr. Ponies represents an important step in the league’s commitment to creating greater developmental opportunities for players throughout the province.

“Expanding meaningful development opportunities into Eastern Ontario is an important part of the continued growth of the CPBL,” said Burton. “There are talented players, coaches and programs throughout this region, and bringing the Kingston Jr. Ponies into the Prospect Division provides another strong pathway for those athletes to develop and compete at a high level. We want players across Ontario to have access to environments that challenge them, prepare them for the next level and allow them to pursue their baseball goals. Kingston is an important step in continuing to expand that opportunity.”

For the Kingston Jr. Ponies, joining the CPBL represents an important milestone for both the organization and baseball throughout the region.

“This is an exciting day for baseball in Kingston and throughout Eastern Ontario,” said Sean Adamson, Head Coach of the Kingston Jr. Ponies. “Joining the CPBL is a tremendous step for the Jr. Ponies and for baseball opportunities across Kingston and the surrounding Eastern Ontario communities. Having the opportunity to compete in the CPBL against tremendous competition is going to create an environment for development at the highest level. We are thrilled about what this means for our players, our program and the future of baseball in our region.”

The organization’s leadership views the move as a natural progression in its ongoing mission to elevate competitive baseball opportunities while providing local athletes with the ability to pursue high-level baseball close to home.

Jim Hunt of the Kingston Jr. Ponies highlighted both the significance of joining the league and the long-term impact the opportunity can have on future generations of players.

“Simply put, the CPBL is the benchmark for elite baseball development throughout Canada,” said Hunt. “We are extremely grateful for this opportunity, which will allow our players and organization to grow, develop and compete against some of the very best talent in the province. This will have a lasting impact on baseball in Kingston and throughout Eastern Ontario.”

The addition of the Kingston Jr. Ponies also reflects the continued evolution of the CPBL Prospect Division, which is designed to provide organizations and athletes with a highly competitive environment focused on long-term player development and creating pathways toward higher levels of the game.

For the Jr. Ponies, competing in the Prospect Division will strengthen an already established development model while enhancing Kingston and Eastern Ontario’s presence within the provincial baseball landscape.

As the organization prepares for its inaugural CPBL season, excitement continues to build among players, coaches, families, alumni and supporters. The move represents more than a new chapter for the Kingston Jr. Ponies — it is an investment in the continued growth and development of baseball throughout Eastern Ontario.
